THE PURPLE BLOOD
They’ve set themselves above us.
They say purple runs through their veins,
They say white is better than black,
We envy their standards.
They, who set the standard
Led us to the “low” life
Confused people, as they,
Condemned and praised our traditions
On one hand and the other.
Our brothers with greedy eyes,
Suppress us below,
Stretching their hands high
To taste of that false ecstasy
Meanwhile others languish in fear
With distorted roots and uncertainty.
They’re not hopeless. No.
But you know soon,
They kill time with their hope;
And hope is almost lost with time.
But their hope is regained
Every single day,
Against all odds, they chant:
“9ja, e go beta. 9ja go beta.”
